Cheapest Us Cigarettes Online

who has the cheapest electronic cigarettes online in the US? Looking to buy electronic cigarette starter kit nothing fancy, but I do want everything i'll need like charger, a few cartridges etc.

soccerluv139 replied: "Ooooooo I heard those were cool! I don't smoke or anything but they are all the rage here in Utah because they just outlawed smoking in every building including bars so people are turning to those. I like it much better that way smoke gets stuck in my hair so easily I hate it."

Owen E replied: "Hi There. I would say the cheapest yet quality option is blu electronic cigarettes.

See this comparison chart:"

Superstar replied: "If your looking for cheap electronic cigarettes then blu cigs are the best for you in terms of price.В  It will save you money in the long run."

Where can I buy cheap cartons of cigarettes online from the US? Specifically Parliament Lights.
Post the link.
Whoever knows the cheapest gets the 10 points.

f_blan replied: "from me"

"Googy" replied: "online."

NYkool replied: "Parliament Lights is a brand name. If you order from stores in Virginia or North Carolina, you have the best chance at lowest price. Try Parliament Lights.com to start and then ask for tobacco shops.
Cheapest would be smokingjoes.com but you do not get the brand name. if you ask they will send you the closest thing to Parliament Lights they have."

Are European cigarettes any different than US cigarettes? I notice that European cigarettes are far cheaper than US cigarettes. Are they (about) the same?

Also, can you recommend a reliable and inexpensive online retailer?

Spare me the critisism, please.

Thanks in advance.

just me =] replied: "yes they're different.they are far to strong and nasty at that.
europeans dont even like them they get imported cig. from the u.s."

Scary replied: "hahaha i was going to say that all I saw in europe was imported american blends!
its the blend, not where you buy it."

Do anyone know what the customs taxes are for importing cigarettes to the US? I'd like to order cigarettes from India and want to know if its cheaper to order them online or to buy them in the US.

Chase M replied: "Order them online if you but them in bulk. If not, the taxes are too high."

European (American brand) cigarettes any different than American cigarettes? I notice that European cigarettes are far cheaper than US cigarettes. Are they (about) the same?

Also, can you recommend a reliable and inexpensive online retailer?

Spare me the critisism, please.

Thanks in advance.

♥Nurse Kimberly♥ replied: "They are the same..."

Johanna S replied: "Not sure about the difference between American and European cigarettes but I do know that most UK Cigarettes have a lower tobacco percentage.

Apparently they're not that strong."

bloodbrother69_ca replied: "Don't know about Europe, but I can tell you that there is a big difference in the smell of Benson and Hedges from Canada. My wife will sometimes pick up a carton from duty free in Detroit, and the American ones stink to high heavens. I've heard that it's the saltpeter added to the American to keep them burning evenly."

WorldTraveler replied: "Im a smoker in all countries i visit, also i worked for a long spell in a tobacco store here in the states so i got a bit of insight on this. Basic american brands (marbro, camel, american spirit) taste exactly the same in other countries, but a bit more stale from shipping (trust me its just the freshness of the cigs if anything) Dunno where you found Cheaper cigs, (except eastren europe... oh i love czech cigs) that i can understand but in general, sample strange looking smokes (Start, Sparta, Moon), also if you find any of those send them my way! ha, in all seriousness tobacco laws are strict in contents, espeicaly in the EU. A good site an inexpensive online retailer that a few of my friends used with sucess is listed below, note the long delivery times to ship over duty free cigs!"

paul_carlston replied: "http://www.go2cheapcigarettes.com/ explains the difference btw European and American cigarettes."

RockyMountainDew replied: "I smoked only US-made cigarettes until it got to the point that I could get 6 European-made cartons for the price of 1 US-made carton. (No-brainer, huh?) There *is* a distinguishable difference between the two in taste and size. EU cigarettes are made from different kinds of tobacco, making them much lighter-tasting and lower in tar and nicotine. Someone else said it well: European smokes taste like they are not 100% tobacco, but maybe have some kind of filler. I've heard of everything from sawdust to floor sweepings, but I have no expertise to answer either way. I don't think the "filler" stories are true. I think EU cigarettes are simply made from different tobaccos than what grows in the US.

Any time you switch from one brand to another, you will taste the difference briefly, but become accustomed to the taste difference before you've smoked through the first pack. Bottom line: a cigarette is a cigarette. It takes about as much time to smoke a European cigarette, though they are definitely smaller than US-made counterparts of the same brand. You may be getting less tobacco per cigarette - I believe so. You may be getting "weaker" tobacco per cigarette, but the taste difference is a matter of adjustment.

I figure I may be smoking lighter, but it's far better than (a) having to quit cold-turkey because I can't afford to buy US-made smokes, or (b) getting 1 carton of US smokes for what 6 cartons of EU smokes would cost. The taste issue is negligible in comparison.

As for recommendations, your best bet is to do a search for "European cigarettes" and do a quick price comparison each time you are prepared to place an order - prices and availability really fluctuate. I do recommend buying as many cartons as you can - the shipping is around $6US per carton and takes a good two to three weeks to arrive."

Codrina replied: "Lucky Strike are not. My experience. I used to order Winston Lights from some place in Switzerland. It took a while to get here, but they were much cheaper, and tasted just as bad as the American ones (I really should quit).

Yesmoke.com was the site. Here's an article about them. You decide.

A question do with buying cigarettes online.? I've seen that you can buy Pink cigarettes. Ranging from Pink Elephant's to Sobranie's.
I mostly interested in the Sobranie Cocktail or Pinks.
Firstly, does anyone know of any good sites where i can get these cheap? I've found a few websites, but just interested to know if anyone else knows of any really good sites.
Secondly, when i purchase cigarettes online from the US or Europe will they get stopped at customs when entering the UK?
I'm going to New York in under 2 weeks time now, so i shall probably bring some back with me anyway but i just wanted to know for future reference as i'm pretty sure you can't purchase either of the cigarette brands that i have mentioned in UK shops.
Thanks!

insane_mad_maniak replied: "they will probably be stopped, and you will have to pay customs/duty/tax on them.

when bringing back from abroad, you are aloud to bring 200 ciggrettes, (10 box's of 20's) per ticket only.

Edit_

they should be marked by the slaes company/seller 'tobbacco product' so it will likly be stopped. a letter will be sent to you to collect them. which is were you will have to pay."

paul_carlston replied: "cigoutlet.net or cigarettesforless.com- never had any complaints.Once mine were stopped, but it was neither my neither supplier's fault but the company made a full refund."

Is buying cigarettes online a good idea? I don't smoke, never have. But my fiance does and cigarettes here in Maine are $65 a carton at the cheapest. We used to buy cigs in New Hampshire for around $35 a pack but since the prices of everything went up and even though we have sales tax and they don't, it doesn't save us any money when we factor in the gas mileage now.
So I was wondering about purchasing cigarettes online. I have heard that they can be very inexpensive if purchased online, but I also heard they can be stale by the time you get them because of shipping time.
So please only answer this question if you have actually purchased cigarettes online and smoked them yourself because I need an accurate opinion before I spend the money for him to just throw them out because he doesn't like them.
Specifically, he smokes Marlboro or Camel Wides.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Nickname replied: "NO"

lily. replied: "i never heard of cigs going stale before
you'll have to pay shipping and handling and crap but like
check how much the total's gonna cost with all the shipping and handling and crap
and if it'll take too long just go spend 65 dollars."

texasUT21 replied: "They wont go stale as long as they stay sealed. But if you wanna buy cigarettes online, look into E-ciggs. I have a feeling you'll like the idea. It's actually way cheaper than regular ciggarettes for the same effect. Look it up."

where can i buy electronic cigarettes in the US.? for cheap. or a really good online site. any help would be appreciated. thnks

Andy C replied: "That will be somewhat difficult. Let me know if you find a way.

"In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) considers electronic cigarettes to be a nicotine delivery system, subject to its approval. The agency is currently investigating electronic smoking devices, and has blocked a number of import shipments of electronic cigarette products to the country.""

jim c replied: "They are avalible. I have 4 starter kits and I have been smoke free for over 2 full months. You can order online. I did, and will continue to order. I am stocking up though.

I got mine at

I have the Gamucci, Smoking Everywhere, Njoy and and off brand. The Gamucci is the best in my opinion, and one of the cheapest. It has good flavor, and the atomizers last longer than the others.

I would suggest that anyone who smokes tobacco get one, or several, they are cheaper than regular ciggs and a hell of a lot less harmfull, no matter what the FDA says. And I do not own a site, so I can say it."

Superstar replied: "Well if you want cheap cigs, than blu cigs or the way to go.В  They are 75 % cheaper than traditional cigarettes, and their the best buy far in terms of research, on this field.В  So if you have time then i would spend my money on these e cigs by far, hope this helps."

Joe S replied: "There are not to many sites that are based out of the United States where you can buy electronic cigarettes. Ever since they gov banned electronic cigarettes from being imported in our options on where to go and buy electronic cigarettes have been real limited.

I did a lot of looking around the web and seen all of the 3 sites based out of the USA, where American citizens can go and buy electronic cigarettes.

The site below currently sells two different brands of e-cigarettes. I have heard nothing but good things about the Gammuci (first one) by I personally went all out and bought the Luci one (second one).

I am really pleased with my electronic cigarette purchase. It looks killer and people are always asking me about it. However I hope they start selling the nicotine liquid soon.

I have been looking for that and there are only a couple of places in the USA for that as well. However the overseas electronic cigarette liquid can be real cheap. It would make this horrible smoking habit all the better.

Hope that site gives you a hand in deciding where to buy electronic cigarettes. It is a great invention, ever smoker should have one."

Tim replied: "You can buy them from"

erikskupeika replied: "I know of a couple places that you can buy the electronic cigarette. Check the links below. I used coupon code dsc10-1947 at green smoke and saved me 10% on mine.
Hope this helps"

Who else would advocate extreme measures to protect homeland? We have known for quite awhile that we have two major self-supporting faction of Hezbolla terrorist calls functioning within the US and others in Canada.
There is the Florida based drug cartel that funnels drug money from the U S. into Canada and then into Lebanon -we know who they are and who they are in league with.
And then there are the cigarette profit mongers------they obtain cigarettes without paying full taxation therefore can make ma handsome profit selling these cheaper cigarettes online.-again that profit goes to supply weapons and training to cells across our country.
We are in danger that at any time Al Querida could call for an attack and all of these cells would then begin waging war within.--Their goal is for all of America to join Islam---or die.
I strongly feel we need a government sanctioned "Hit Squad" to go in a clandestine series of operations to kill these cells----no going though court systems---------these cells know
our laws and have been trained in t
and have been trained in the art of avoiding prosecution. They fully know how to used our legal system to full advantage to harm us.
My question is------what could we do to make this happen? A hit squad to take them out--------
what could be some pros and cons of creating such an entity?
Also I think it would be imperative this branch of law enforcement would be sworn to an oath to not violate a rigid framework of rules designed to protect the innocent.------------and in return they would be granted total immunity to any kind of civil or legal obligations.
What do you think?
Ok Folks-I do see your point-----what I'm looking for here----is it possible to create such a thing as this and not be able to keep it under control?
I don't claim to be the sharpest tool in the shed---------and maybe my idea is unworkable----buy like the gentleman below said -desperate times call for desperate measures---------why should our enemies be afforded the same right US citizens who have fought for these rights-----they did not fight for us----the protections should not apply to our enemies.
There you go----this is exactly why I asked this question-------not to try and force an agenda---------but to explore the truth--------Buzzard feels it is a bad idea-----------and I value his opinion HIGHLY---------folks-----the next presidential election to be held in 2008 is a part of the war between good and evil----------just remember that when you go to the polls-------do not allow a slick politician to convince you to support an agenda when you know in your heart it is really wrong--------we often times are used as pawns withoit even knowing it.

They play dirty we should stay within the parameters of what they do. That is all they will understand. Look at how they are treated in their country when caught for spying, why should we treat them differently? Because we're civilized? I don't think they see the difference, they see that as our weakness and they are using it against us. Time to change strategies."

America will never join Islam, if anything we will see a time when when we need to eradicate Islam from our land. Sooner rather than later would be nice.

I believe that Islam has set up many phony cells in our country, for the purpose of keeping our agents and intelligence community chasing it's @ss. A lot of resources get poured into a black hole when we allow ourselves to follow the dummy brigade, in this manner.

We do need an effective hit squad and not one that allows our legal system to be tied up with dead end nonsense. This is the problem with busting this scum too early, it changes the focus of our first responders and gives the evil-doers, wiggle room to go in yet another direction !"

Alexandros replied: "I like this questions because, it bespeaks the true desperation of the global situation.
I presume, you've considered the impact this has on diplomacy.
As a nation our international reputation is dismal and we've become a domestic psychodrama filled with characters like Cho, and the other deluded sociopaths to highlight the diseased "American Social Psychology".
The thing about "Imus", the thing about "Anna Nicole" all distractions from the fact that, America needs to develop a "sense of urgency" about converting to Bio-Fuels--right now--we need a "Manhattan Project" about eliminating our dependence on " Foreign Oil"! Hell, we can "Kick That Ass" when we eliminate you from our market place!
WE need a "National Works Program to employ our citizens in the improvement of our " Homeland."
SO, THE ANSWER IS _____NO!
We must use our talent to Improve America.
Protect our Borders to the max and become "Semi-Isolationist!""

Brandon replied: "Well I do not think your idea is workable. The basis of our political system is ultimately one of checks and balances. In theory, the 3 branches of govenment limit each other's power and in turn our limited by democratic process. I think the idea of an extrajudicial force authorized to use lethal force against American citizens is inadvisable and frightening. To whom would they be accountable? And who decides who is a threat and who is not? Also what happens in case of mistakes? I think your worldview is one of absolute truth where their is good and evil and all measures are authorized to destroy evil. From this point of view it is rational and acceptable. I also think you're being alarmist and reactionary. It would litterally take more than 100 September 11ths to even significantly damage our homeland. You say their goal is that all America join Islam, well I believe that is the goal of all religious groups here. I think the world is more complex than the black/white, good/bad dichotomy also. I think that these groups are spawned out of political disenfranchisement, nativism, and a reaction to globalization. The groups and cells are just symptoms of this and eliminating them only leads to short term victories. If Osama bin Laden was killed today, it would make no dent in the broader Islamist movement. Besides it is undeniable that statistically speaking Americans will always kill each other in far greater numbers than suicidal jihadists (i.e. murders, car accidents, etc.), yet there is no outcry to stop these."

Larry V replied: "Brandon- That system of checks and balances that you speak of is the very weakness that is being exploited here and now and the reasoning behind this hit squad proposal,to circumvent the exploitation of our own system against us it appears the enemies who desire to do us harm know these weak areas and are exploiting us. We do need to find a way to seal the chinks in our armor. Remember these people do not play by our rules they love cultivating and creating psychotic personality types and using them as human shields and as suicide bombers.
Ans when they take our soldiers by surprise they tend to torture them in the most brutal fashion. Often times they have been beaten so savagely it is quite difficult to identify the mangled corpse. They are also fond of cutting the heads off our guys after taking turns beating them with rifle butts.
Sadly the enemy is redefining the meaning of inhumane tactics. Some politicians want to slap they wrists after a few months of incarceration where the living conditions sometimes exceed what they had been accustomed to. And then ship them home to fight again. We have got to stop letting congress and the crazed organization known as the United Nations from dictating to our generals how to conduct this conflict, civil war, war, or whatever you choose to call it.
Lets cut some red tape because it strangles us."

xenypoo replied: "Do we finally get to blame the Cubans for helping terrorists? I know they would be the lower idiots on the scale of terrorism, but they've don't it, by thieving off the American people, much like Mexico. We already know Cubans in Florida are the first to start illegally selling food stamps in Florida, so what is to stop them from helping terrorists groups?
The cell, is the Cubans, I have no doubt. Cubans are the ones who claim to be poor, and needy, begging off Americans, and stealing. Even here in California, I was mobbed by Cubans, and all they got was $4, my watch, and a key-chain! I have no doubt that Cubans in Florida can be coerced rather easily by terrorist groups, and the American government should look into them, as well, as Arabs. Just a thought."

Airport Cigarette Prices

Cigarette prices in barcelona airport ? Going to Barclona next week and know usually cheaper to buy cigarerres in Tabac shop but if we cannot get does anyone know how much say Mayfair are in Barcelona Airport at minute ?

Thanks

Pompal '09. replied: "In the official tobacco stores Mayfair are now 29.50 euros for a carton of 200. You can expect to pay 2 or 3 euros more at the airport.
These are the current prices for most brands in the tobacconists (tabac) -"

What are the prices of cigarettes at Bodrum (Turkey) airport or on the plane back to England? Thanks for your help!

toontaxidriver replied: "no sure about bodrum but flow back from dalaman 3 weeks ago and 200 l+b was 18.50 euro ВЈ16.70 wouldn't buy any from local shops normally all cheap shite that u can not smoke but they will scan your passport so u wouldnt b able 2 go over your 200 limit best buy loads at the uk airport and bring them back with u"

yagiz replied: "Never buy your duty frees on the plane or at a UK airport.

You will find you are paying so much more.

Bodrum airport is very reasonable, all of their prices are in Euro not pound so thats where your saving.

Depending on the type of tabacco you smoke will change the price but for example if you were to buy a box of Turkish LM its 12 euro
Marlboro you more likley looking at 19 -25 euro starting at about ВЈ15 depending on red label/ gold.

I hope this helps, I have lived in Bodrum for 5 years now and have spent many pounds in the duty free at the airport lol.

Dnt forget also there is a duty free at the luggage reclaim to so there really is no need to buy in the uk and waste your beer money

Have a fantastic holiday"

what price are cigarettes at dublin airport for travelling within the eu? going to dublin next week, had heard that cigarettes were cheaper over there, just wondering what the price in town is, and at the airport, just coming from scotland, so obviously the price with duty. thanks.

agooddub replied: "The cigarettes are not cheap in Dublin. A pack of 20 popular brand, like Marlboro or Bensons is € 8.05. There is no duty free benefit at the airports, as you are staying within the EU in both directions."

Orla C replied: "Smoking is bad for your health."

Current Prague (CR) Cigarette Prices.? I am planning a trip to Prague in June and just working out what money I will need to take:

Could anybody give me some idea of the current cigarette prices -

Budget Brands & Premiumrands - Also, is it still more expensive to buy in the airport than at Tesco ?

Many Thanks

Curiousity killed the cat replied: "Hi I went there last month so I can help you.

It is most definately cheaper to buy at the airport than at Tesco. Prague airport Duty Free had a reasonable selection of cigs, but not all well-known brands. Not sure what airport you're flying from, but if its one of the London airports, especially Gatwick and Heathrow, their cigs are excellent value, doing luxury brands like Sobranie and Davidoff, to mainstream Marlboro and Lucky Strikes. Even the luxury brands like Karelia Slims were about ВЈ28 for 10 packs, i.e. 200 cigs, so they work out cheap.

I also recommend you buy cigarettes in Prague itself. I bought mine at a place in Stare Mesto, at the end of Charles Bridge there's lots of souvenir shops that I was dragged to (!) and you'll find tobacconists near there. The one I went to was on your right side as you come off Charles Bridge and there are souvenir shops lining the street to your right. Walk for 30 seconds and you'll find a covered market/arcade, there was a good tobacconist down there. I bought Vogue Superslim cigarettes, as they're not readily available in the UK. One pack around 72 Czech Crowns, which is roughly ВЈ2.20-ВЈ2.80, depending on exchange rate, a bargain as they are usually about ВЈ4-ВЈ6 per pack in the rest of Europe. Bear in mind Vogues are a luxury brand, so budget brands will be even cheaper. You can smoke in most public places in the Czech Republic, even clubs, bars and restaurants. Just dispose of the butt properly.

Hope I helped. I imagine you will get at least one 'Smoking kills' lecture answer! Have fun, Prague is incredible:)"

Lambert and Butler(L&B) Cigarette prices in denmark/and or Uk airports when travelling within the EU.? Hi I am going to denmark in the near future and want to know if anyone knows where to purchase lambert and butler aka L&b Cigarettes and the prices if possible. Also I know that if you travel from the uk to outside of europe you can get far cheaper prices due to duty free, since i'm travelling within the EU are the prices still the same as I would pay in a normal UK shop or are they cheaper insde the aiport?

Nina D replied: "Cigarettes are about the same in the airports as in the shops of respective countries. Cigarettes are far cheaper in Denmark (ВЈ3 for 20), but getting your hands on L&Bs outside Copenhagen airport might be very tricky indeed. They have a small selection of goods around the baggage reclaim area, but they might not stock your particular brand. Come on, be brave... They've got some super potent, cheap cigs in Denmark!"

Does anyone know the UK Duty Free Prices for 200 cigarettes? I was wondering what the average price of 200 cigarettes (B and H or similar) was, in the UK airport duty free shops?

Alex replied: "Around ВЈ25 when I checked last month."

Rob replied: "If you are flying to any country within the EU (e.g. spain, france, etc)then you will not be able to purchase duty free cigarettes as by EU Law, you must pay the duty within that country and not the country you are traveling to.

If you are fly to any country outside the E.U (e.g. New York), you are entire to purchase duty free cigarettes which are around ВЈ25 for 200. Please note that must countries will only allow you to bring in 200 duty free cigarettes, but check with the individual country before hand"

executioner_bolan replied: "There are NO Duty Free in the EU any more"

english rosethorn replied: "If you are going outside the EEC they are around ВЈ2.50 a 20 pack but they usually have offers on so that if there is a party of you you can buy bigger packs between you and this can reduce to cost to under ВЈ2 for 20.

They are usually cheaper at most resorts and will be the same price on the plane as in the duty free shops.

But if you are keen on a certain brand the duty free shop is more likely to have the one you want.

If you are going within the EEC you will have to wait until you get to where ever you are going to buy them."

Matt replied: "Yupp, Duty Free no longer exists.
I would expect you'll pay more in the airport terminal than you would down the road at the local Tesco supermarket."

agooddub replied: "There are two prices at the duty free shop in Dublin airport, either €26 or €84.50 for a 200 carton of Bensons.
The cashier will decide what to charge you, depending on the destination on your boarding card.
If you are travelling to another EU destination, then the price is €84.50.
If you are going to another country outside of the EU, then it will be €26. The Duty Free privilege was abolished within the EU about 9 years ago."

Orla C replied: "I think the best solution is to stop smoking - think of all the money you'll save."

bluebell replied: "You might be better getting them at your destination. In Portugal duty free is €38.50, and the price in regular shops about the same. I brought some home for a neighbour - they would have cost more than €80 here."

Anyone been birmingham airport recently? Basically i would like to know the cost of cigarettes. Going france in a couple of days and want to bring back a few cigarettes so just need an idea of price. Thanks

no one replied: "never been birmingham"

Jaffa cake. replied: "I would buy them in a super market in france if i was you.
carrefour and marche plus for example."

reikilady31 replied: "You won't save much from buying them at the airport, plus I think that as you are going to France you possibly won't be able to purchase them prior to leaving as they do ask for your bording card when purchasing cigarettes and alcohol.

Your best bet would be to buy them in France, even there they are not much cheaper but will definately be better than getting them here."

rossi replied: "Unfortunately France is in the EU so the ciggies are not that cheap at B,ham airport, i was there recently!. I
It would be cheaper to buy from them from a hypermarket in France, but i don't really know the cost over there
The ciggies are only cheap if you are travelling to a non EU country.
You will make a saving though."

How much tobacco can you take on aeroplane between UK and Germany and what is the price? I'm going to Germany in June and was wondering what the max legal limit is of how many packs of cigarettes or in weight you're allowed to take back over to England. Also could someone tell me the prices? (50g golden virginia for example or 200marlboro). Where is the cheapest place to buy them from? the actual airport? or surrounding shops.

Thanks

The Bricklayer replied: "Its unlimited, but you may need to convince the customs that all you have in your possession is for personal use.

I find that the plane is normally quite good for price-about ВЈ10 per 200"

imdashti replied: "You are allowed to enter 800 cigarettes, 400 cigarillos, 200 cigars & 1 kg of tobacco."

PHIL P replied: "The prices quoted above are incorrect.

There is no "duty free" on flights between EU counties and you will find 200 cigs will cost you about ВЈ25 in Euros. Tobacco is a bit better value at around ВЈ6 for 50g pouch.

That's why there is no limit on what you can bring back as long as it is for personal use and not for resale or commercial use."

trailblazer_uk2000 replied: "Be careful of the personal use rule...you could be charged duty onall or part of your purchases if you can convince them on personal use. ie. don't try to carry more than 1,000 or 1kg."

Highest Cigarette Prices

How much are cigarette prices currently in Florida-Specifically Tampa Area? I would like a range of lowest prices to highest prices...and Newports if you know offhand :) Thanks!

beto515 replied: "check on google"

cclover3 replied: "Ohhh, these days? Around $100 a pack! I recommend you quit :) Be healthy in 2010!"

D.A. replied: "Lowest, go to the Seminole Smoke Shop on Orient.

If you like them all, start up your own website and get others to pay you to advertise."

huscafat replied: "Why do you need cigarette, nicotine tea or chewing tobacco if you can take those dead virus vaccination awaiting your cancer and you can make your doctors even richer ?
Forget it buddy, they'll make those cigarettes cost $300 a pack without government subsidized Medicaid and not about how do you manage your "harmful" smoking habit financially...."

With the cigarette prices as high as they are, is there anyone here that has quit smoking because of it? I quit smoking 10 or 11 years ago, for both physical and financial reasons. And I'm so happy I was able to. When are you going to quit?

dr.ashish replied: "not beacause of high prices really but that cigg affects the body ....so i quit up early............."

bumblebee replied: "I quit because I wanted to, not because they were expensive.
1.39 in Florida
305 100's..taste just like a Marlboro"

KS replied: "My wife actually started smoking about 3 months ago. She is addicted to it and does not plan on quitting anytime soon. She buys a carton every 2 weeks to save a liitle money."

rufus_trotman replied: "Nope, I didn't quit smoking but I did quit buying tobacco with UK duty on it (the UK duty rate makes the combined federal/state/municipality duties in even the most fanatically anti-smoking cities in the US pale by comparison).

As it works out, I can get a cheap flight to mainland europe, buy 3 months worth of tobacco, have a nice meal and fly home and still not have spent more than I would have.
For those of you in the states, the same practice is equally possible, if your city is ripping you off blind, then buy from your local tribal nation or a neighboring state, that way, when your state starts losing out on their share of the tax take, they might start thinking about being a bit more reasonable..."

Would the cigarette prices drop if people stopped buying them? Does the government really want people to stop smoking if they make loads of money off oit from the taxes? Why are the prices so high in some places and lower in others? Do they want the prices high so people would go bankrupt and cant afford any more? Why are they taking advantage of peoples addictions?
What would happen if everyone stopped buying cigarettes for a month?

maccy wacky replied: "They want people to stop and a way of doing that is raising the price, yes supply and demand says if people stop buying they would drop in price"

Will W replied: "ASK OBAMA HE RAISED THE TAX ON THEM AFTER SAYING HE WOULD NOT RAISE TAXES ON THE LOWER CLASS LOWER CLASS USE 90% OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS

sorry about the cap lock"

Reverend Eide replied: "What would happen? Nothing, cos it'll never happen. People have made it abundantly clear that they don't want anyone impeding their ability to feed their vices, and no amount of money will stop some people.

Though saying they're taking advantage of their addictions is a bit skewed. If people want to quit smoking to help with the cost of cigarettes, then they can do so, its just much easier to deal with the rising costs and continue to pay.

Also, raising taxes on cigarettes =/= raising taxes on the lower class. Luxury items are just that, luxuries. The taxes he was referring to were required taxes."

idontgivafork replied: "are you kidding? think of this, the govt subsidizes ciggs, then they get a return of way better than 100% on my money, now you think uncle sam wants you to quit smoking or drinking? think about how many programs have been funded by cigg/alcohol tax. now think about how many more are gonna be funded.when the govt needs money, they go to sinners and single people. heck why not just quit writing checks when they are bouncing like the rest of us, or maybe corporate downsizing. if your gonna be americas largest employer run the godamn thing like a business please. our govt was not meant to be the nations biggest employer, and they are gonna give financial advice to the big 3, now im really laughing my ass off. what in the world is wrong with this picture? once done an experiment in grade school on the barter system. guess what? we are at the results we came to no matter how mant times we repeated the experiment. 1 entity gets all the power and money and exploits the masses for their gains."

Robert replied: "That is one of the controversies over the Electronic Cigarette. If the FDA gets their hands on it they will limit it's capabilities. However, without it, Lawmakers could levy a huge luxury tax on it and begin to make back the money they are loosing.

(By the way. The best E-Cig can be found here.)"

Kevin replied: "The government cant do much to get people to quit so they're trying to hit them in their wallets. They win either way though because of the loads of money from taxes or people quit. The prices very from place to place because of average income of that city or town. If everyone stopped buying them they would go down. Simple supply and demand.

Kevin"

Will you still smoke even though cigarette prices are going up? I'm 21, and i've been smoking since I was 15. (horrible habit, i know) I live in Massachusetts, and the cigarette prices went from $5 to 9$ in 6 months! I've cut down a lot and i'll eventually quit. Even though cigarette prices are so high, will you continue to smoke??

emmettripley replied: "“How many non smokers do we have here tonight? (cheering/clapping)……What a bunch of whining maggots. Bunch of obnoxious self righteous slugs….....don’t take that wrong. I’d quit smoking if I didn’t think I’d become one of you” – Bill Hicks"

Cigarette prices in California? Moving out to San Fran from Phoenix... I know cigarette prices will be way higher. Just wondering if I can get some idea on figures. Any smokers in CA? How much for a pack of Parliament? Cheers

Obviousman replied: "I don't know the exact price of Parliaments, but you should stock up before coming here. If you are driving, take I-40 and stop at the smoke shop on the Avi reservation, about 15 min north of I-40 after you cross the California border. Prices there are much cheaper, and no taxes."

Sp100 replied: "Don't know the prices, sorry - it is illegal to smoke almost everywhere in California, including a lot of places outdoors and probably everyplace indoors."

West of Encino replied: "you really should quit. the second hand smoke theory is pure rubbish. Id rather have you smoke a cigarette then speeding on the freeway while on the cell phone. Its illegal to talk without a hands free, but the retards still do it, causing more accidents than before, because they have one eye on the phone and the other looking in the rearview mirror looking for cops."

TX2step replied: "I order mine from Cigarettes Cheaper, on-line. Virginia Slims are about $30/carton; although my husband smokes generic 100's for $7.99/carton. There are cigarette stores in California, but you'll be shooed away from the doorways, even when you're smoking outside! It might be a little better in San Francisco though - people in Southern California (especially Orange Co) are unreasonably rude to smokers (while they're popping their Valiums or diet pills) ....."

Peedlepup replied: "Back in the day I had a trucking run from L.A. to Phoenix, and would routinely go to that reservation store just off I-10 at Riggs Road to buy cigarettes for my co-workers because they were easily $15 a carton cheaper. That all came to an end when some years ago Arizona raised to price of cigarettes to a level only slightly less that what Californians pay. So did Nevada. You'll pay more here, but not that much.

I don't know the price of the Parliment brand specifically, but on average most brands go for around $4.50 a pack."

Hopalong Cassidy replied: "$3.49 a pack for Marlboro at 7/11. It is actually legal to smoke in California. Just not in restaurants, public buildings, the beach, near a school, on the freeway, near a freeway, in Laguna Beach, in the forest, in the desert, near a palm tree, in the airport, in the 7/11 where, ironically, you just bought the cigarettes."

highest paid cigarette in the world? cigarettes price all over the world

North Carolina Cigarette prices? A couple weeks ago cigarette prices in Shelby north carolina where i live went up dramatically, Newports generally being around $3.75 a pack after taxes went up to around $4.59 after taxes. I know up north around New Jersey it has been very very high for awhile now. I was wondering what state has the most expensive cigarettes and what state has the cheapest? And will they ever go down?

TCC Queen of Thumbs down replied: "texas is about 5.50 to 6.90.

GOD BLESS"

midnightmoon replied: "NC is still close to the cheepest. I dont have stats to give you though. And no, after these tax hikes they will never go back down. In fact, I see these tax hikes as starting the road to ban smoking. With the economy the way it is, after the next tax hikes over the next several weeks, many smokers are going to have no choice but to quit. Once the economy is back in shape, fewer people will be smokers and the prices will be higher than they are today, so hopefully fewer people will start."

Is the U.S. government really looking forward into raising cigarette and tobacco prices extremely high? I just heard, from my mother, that the U.S. government, next year in 2010, is looking forward in raising the prices of one cigarette pack to $12, and one cigarette carton to $120. If this is true, then it is a BAD idea to do so. People wake up every morning to smoke a cigarette, and to take that away from them is to take away their right to smoke it legally and with freedom. Honestly, if this is true, it sounds a little capitalist to me.
Come on people! If the U.S. government raises the taxes on cigarettes and tobacco products, then that will be taking smokers' right to NOT quit. Also, there will probably be revolts and riots starting to happen. However, there is another alternative to this, we don't have to force people to quit smoking. Wow, I cannot believe what you all are saying....

irishpunk90 replied: "yeah tax the smokers into the ground. then it will discourage the nasty habit and help end it once and for all"

George S replied: "Of course, and any other way they can suck taxes. They have promised everything to everybody and that costs everything from everybody.

Even after they've taken everything, you won't get everything you want. That's never been possible. That's just a fairy tale, but you will be stripped bare for the pretense."

Logic > Science replied: "i smoke, and i think they should DEFINITELY raise taxes on tobacco... AND alcohol. these are dangerous substances, and if the prices are raised drastically, less people will die for them."

Raymond R replied: "It's better than raising Gas Prices. People DONT NEED to smoke, they choose to smoke, and then their health insurance goes up, thus raising all of our insurance. It's a luxury not a necessity.

I personally feel they should just legalize marijuana and tax the hell out of that. Oh well.

If people are that worried about it, grow tobacco and roll it, right?"

Tman replied: "Taxes will raise but it will be from the state and not the government, and it will not be that astronomically high. Inevitably we will start taxing marijuana, but until that day cigarette smokers will take the hit."

Ms. Lise replied: "They need to raise the taxes on it so that people can quit. My husband smokes and he has had to learn to not smoke around me. It makes me cough and on top of that I am pregnant. He doesn't smoke in the house he smokes outside but in the car I get it and I choke and everything. If it is doing all that to me imagine what it is doing to his lungs! People shouldn't smoke it not only hurts you but the people around you when they inhale it. At least with liquor it will only hurt someone when you are reckless (driving drunk) I have a motto I don't drink and drive If I am drinking I drink at home plus it is way cheaper."

Spruce replied: "Taxing cigarettes is one way for the US Government to help with the financial matters going on in Washington. However, you're right it does take away a smokers right to "smoke em' if they got em'". The US Gov. is trying to help Americans quit smoking by taxing the tobacco. There have been more heart attacks, strokes, premature babies born, children with asthma, and so on, and so on in the past 10 years. The US Gov. just wants to make people aware that there is a health risk associated with smoking and they are trying to help the American people live longer and healthier lives. The US Gov. is trying to stop an epidemic of unhealthy kids growing up and needing more health care, being on Medicaid, needing State Assistance because their health keeps them from working, etc. They don't want to see the country get worse. So, instead of complaining that you won't be able to afford your habit, look at the big picture and understand what they are trying to do. You can check out the American Heart Association statistics on what the health crisis is at the below address. However, if you don't believe a word I've said, you can contact your local representative and have them speak for you in Washington at the second address."

Witchy replied: "I'm sure that they will raise the taxes again. Tobacco is already taxed at least 100% of the retail value. I think that's more than enough.

In fact, the taxes are so high right now that many people are no longer buying their cigarettes in stores. As with anything else, if you can get it a lot cheaper illegally, the black market will thrive.

I am worried about things like asthma in children. I don't understand why we are having such an increase of children with asthma.

In 1970, 44.1% of all males in the US smoked, 33.9% of females smoked. That year the number of hospital discharges for asthma in the under 15 age group was 33,000 (5.8%).

In 1980, 37.6% of males smoked, 29.3% of females smoked. The number of under 15 hospital discharges for asthma was 124,000 (24.2%).

In 1990, 28.4%, 22.8% females smoked. The number of under 15 hospital discharges was 169,000 (30.8%).

Obviously, smoking has nothing to do with the trend of childhood asthma. As smoking decreases, the childhood asthma cases rise. Besides, smokers more often go outside now but they didn't go outside in the 70's. If smoking was the main cause of childhood asthma, the rate of childhood asthma would be half of what it was in the early 70's since we only have half as many people smoking now (and most of those people go outside)."

Does cigarette smoking cause poverty or are poor people just more susceptible to nicotine and other addictions A friend of mine owns a convenient store which sells cigarettes at high volume, high discount prices. Most, but certainly not all, appear to be from lower socio-economic backgrounds,i.e. beater cars, lots of drunkenness, shabby clothing, etc. A great many appear also to be undernourished, but they have no qualms about forking over $4 plus for packs of Marlboros, Newports, Camels, among others. That money looks like it would be better spent on dental care or food for their children but they seem to be enslaved to the premium priced cigarettes; most don't even try to save by buying off brands or whatever he might have on sale. Am I missing something?

Pacifica replied: "Addiction is a terrible thing and is prevelant among all social classes."

Steve replied: "Life is all the much tougher for poor people, did you ever think that maybe they are just trying to keep their nerves and wits together to make through another day at their crappy job and who are you to stomp on them for the little bit of pleasure a smoke here and there gives them? Obviously your friend is just as complicit in this because he's not above selling cigarettes to these people along with anyone else. There are a lot worse products they could be buying from your friend's store, what, would you rather they all just buy malt liquor and really cheap beer?"

Josh P replied: "It could be that your buddy owns a convenience store in a bad neighborhood...Here is an easy way to find out. The next time your mom and sister go to work on the corner...have your sister count the newer cars, and your mom count the older ones...(i'm talking about the cars buying cigarettes, not the cars stopping by for some nook) By the end of the day you should have your answer, assuming your mom and sister can count past 11...

Quit asking stupid questions if you dont' want stupid answers....I could say the same thing about upper class people also...here are a few...

Does driving a Hummer and paying 4 dollars for a gallon of gas that only takes you 6 miles just a sign that the rich are more susceptible to wasting their money on trying to overcompensate for their small cranks ????

Are rich parents who give their kids credit cards and let them get 10,000$ in debt before their 18th birthday just a sign that daddy probably feels guilty for touching them once ??

Its all in how you look at it....unfortunatly you chose to look at it the wrong way.

Wait...you're a republican aren't you...just a guess."

cobblestonehero replied: "Cigarette smoking does not cause poverty. More impovrished people smoke because it is a stress reliever and they become addicted due to their desperation at life. At the same time, plenty of middle-class and upper-class people smoke to deal with life as a coping mechanism. Cigarettes are a very particular pleasure so people usually have a certain "brand" they like which they will buy regardless of price. Yes, poor people should spend their money on more important things, but when you are addicted your mind tells you that the value of having your favorite smokes is more than being able to buy the nicer clothes or health care. Plain and simple."

AbFab replied: "Nicotine is a harder addiction to kick than heroin and is
classless in it's hold on people. The inspiration to quit
usually comes from the support of your peers, education
via your doctor or self motivation to improve your life.
If none of these roads are available and nobody around
you has found a way out or just doesn't care, why would
you give up a habit that brought you some pleasure in
a life full of chaos and hopelessness? You need a lot
of determination to quit smoking and there has to be
some kind of substitute for the familiarity, coziness and
feeling of security of sitting down with a cup of coffee or
a drink and a ciggarette. The whole world is smoking
out there. All of Germany, Greece, Turkey, Russia,
Japan, China, France, Italy, Spain, Mexico...the list goes
on. All cultures, all classes. It's the ciggaretts, not the
life style. It's a personal choice, just as yours is for
criticism of that choice. A lot of people started smoking
when it was considered sophisticated and cool, before
the Surgeon General's report came out on the dangers.
By that time, the habit and the surrounding habits attached
to it had become ingrained. These people had children
who saw their parents smoking and thought it was O.K.,
etc. It's a lot more complicated than you might think.
I'm from an educated, upper middle class background,
aware of the health implications and it took me a good
25 years to finally quit. I have friends from similar back-
grounds that are still smoking. It's not until very recently
that anyone even cared one way or the other. There's
a whole world of people out there that have gone before
you, are still around and are trying to change the habits
they've aquired in their lifetimes. Realize the facts and
give them a break."

Why are cigarettes priced higher in walmart but priced lower at the Murphy gas station? I went to walmart today and a pack of camel crush cigarettes were $5.11 but at the Murphy Gas station just right outside of walmart they are about a dallor cheaper. Why is that?

EMMA replied: "Just because it is walmart doesnt mean that they are cheaper.

At the dollar store you can find cheaper things, but not everything, somethings at the dollar store you can find at walmart for a cheaper price, do not be fooled. always compare prices. good luck next time. cigs are too expensive and will only keep increasing in price."

LaFleur replied: "Walmart has a higher overhead.

Cheezus, cigs are $9.00 where I am, I'd love to pay only $5.11."

Where To Buy Flavored Cigarettes

Where can I buy strawberry flavored cigarettes? Has anyone tried those nat sherman colored cigarettes? Where can you buy those? What about fruit flavored ones? Are they at a regular convienence store? I'm 29 and just need a smoke and I don't want to go back to marlboro. Any suggestions. I wish there was a cigarette that wasn't addictive that I could occasionally smoke to just relax. I've been smoke free since 1998. You gotta give me credit.

coax_me_cajole_me replied: "Try smoking Cigarillo's if you don;t want to get hooked on cigs again, they are basically a small cigar with a filter on them, they come in many different flavors from chocolate to fruit. (prime time is the brand I buy in canada) they are avalible at most stores that sell cigs"

onetruerick2008 replied: "Hi Natalie! I guess the best thing would be, as the other person suggested, to smoke cigars. I wouldn't try cigarillos, though, because you might find yourself inhaling them. Get some big ones that are too strong to inhale.

Or, just accept the fact that there is a part of you that simply NEEDS to smoke, and go buy a carton of your favorite cigarette. Really, Natalie, it's okay to be a smoker. You did really well, ten years without smoking. I truly give you credit! Now you can smoke. You know you want to."

Where do I buy fruit flavored cigarettes? I know there has to be a store or online website that sells flavored cigarettes. I mean like fruit flavored, vanilla, lime, ect.. I am 35 and smoke. I know they have been banned but they have existed which means they are out there some where. Any ideas?

headcrab man replied: "Well there banned, but that doesn't stop any drug dealers. Make connections and you could have a strawberry ciggy in no time!"

Sealo replied: "why don't you just eat real food."

Minna V replied: "There are no fruit flavored cigarettes, but there are fruit flavored little cigars. I just bought 'Prime Time" brand watermelon flavored ones from a smoke shop, they are the same size as regular cigarettes, only brown instead of white and burn like a cigarette rather than a cigar. They also had various different flavors like cherry, strawberry and chocolate mint. Gas stations or grocery stores don't carry them but smoke shops do."

*au natural* replied: "You can buy some here.

I was contemplating buying them. I just don't know if I want to pay $13 for ONE pack of cigarettes."

Kavya replied: "Sweet Dreams. Great cherry cigarettes, that is the one I tried. Smells like a cherry candle, tastes like a light cherry. I heard the other flavors are pleasant too. Unfortunately they only sell 5 packs per carton.

Help for my friend please? My friend ordered cigarettes online - not a premium or imported brand but a native Indian brand from a reservation in NY for her own personal use in South Jersey. She bought 3 cartons. I told her she could get in trouble for this. What are the chances, really? She said the package came from a PO box in NY with no info as to its contents.
There WERE clearly cigarettes inside the box, but the outside of the box was not marked as to its contents.

Anyone native/fluent Spanish speaker? Any help on translating the following text would be appreciated. No online translators though please....

I am writing in response to your email. You mentioned that you have been suffering from stress for the last year. Matilde Suarez, an expert on stress and stress management has many reasons for the causes of stress. Some of these symptoms are working too many hours and not sleeping enough. Many people are too preoccupied with their work and cannot seems to separate work life from home life and are therefore not able to relax and have time for other activities such as sports. Others do not even make time to have healthy and regular meals, this is essential for a healthy, balanced lifestyle. I believe that what Matilde is saying is true. I also think that working from home is not good as it makes it even harder to disconnect from work.
Enrique, to start I feel that you lifestyle is not helping your stress levels and in the long run is going to make you ill. First of all you should cut down on the amount of cigarettes that you smoke or even stop smoking altogether. Your symptoms are typical of stress, such as irritability and inability to sleep. Try and restrict the amount of hours that you work, get some exercise, and eat regularly. Despite what you think, you can always make time for these things, for example, get, and leave earlier; you will then have time to walk to work rather than driving or getting the train. Make sure you leave wk on time, come home, and have a good meal. Try to stay away from emailing from home, therefore giving you time to relax and switch off before going to bed. You may also find that this helps you sleep better.

I hope this advice helps

Even though I don't know what country Enrique comes from, I used a type of Spanish that would be easily understood in any country. I didn't translate the first paragraph in its entirety due to lack of time (I'm doing this for free and I usually charge for such services), but I did translate what I considered to be the most important parts. I did translate the second paragraph in its entirety, and I agree with you that if he follows your advice, he'll feel much better in the long run.

Eso tambiГ©n pueda ayudarte a dormir mejor. AdemГЎs, creo que lo de trabajar desde la casa no es bueno porque no te deja desconectarte completamente del trabajo.

Espero que mis consejos te ayuden."

Is this what we want to saddle ourselves with in an Economic Depression (see below)? Turkey's industrial output plummets, economy slows

CENTRAL BK CP (MI) 16.10 –
Wednesday's slump was the seventh month in a row that industrial production declined amid contracting domestic demand and falling exports as Turkey is hit by the global economic downturn.

The data, published by the Turkish Statistics Institute, showed that the biggest contraction was in the automative sector which plummeted by a staggering 58.7 percent. Manufacturing industry output was down by 25.9 percent in total, the institute said.

"We expect a similar output performance in March. However we expect some recovery starting in April as the recently introduced tax cuts have led to inventory depletion in some of the key industries such as the automotive," Yarkin Cebeci, a senior economist at JP Morgan, said.

Last month, the Turkish government announced tax cuts in the housing, automotive, appliances and electronics sectors for three months in a bid to revive falling demand.

The February figures also increase pressure on the central bank to cuts its key rates as the decline in demand pulls down inflation which hit 7.89 percent in March.

"This result supports the case for another 50 basis point cut by the Central bank in this month?s monetary policy meeting," Cebeci said.

In March, the central bank trimmed its key borrowing rate to 10.5 percent in the fifth consecutive cut since November.

Analysts underlined that the figures point to a deeper contraction in gross domestic product (GDP) in the first quarter of the year after the economy slumped a massive 6.2 percent in the last quarter of 2008.

Gains the first three quarters of 2008 helped GDP end 2008 with a 1.1 percent growth.

"We expect gross domestic product to plunge 9.0 percent in the first quarter, 5.1 percent in the second quarter and 3.1 percent in the third quarter and then grow 3.6 percent in the last quarter of the year," Cebeci said.

The scenario sees Turkey's economy contracting by 3.4 percent in the whole of 2009, he added.

The Turkish economy had been one of the strongest in the region in recent years, having grown by 8.4 percent in 2005, 6.9 percent in 2006 and 4.7 percent in 2007 under recovery programmes backed by the International Monetary Fund in the wake of two severe financial crises.

The government is under pressure to finalize a long-delayed fresh deal with the IMF to weather the crisis and has said that it will invite an IMF team this month to conluded negoations which had been suspended since January.

Financial markets and business circles have long been pressing for the deal, but the government is under fire for dragging its hells on the deal ahead of local elections on March 29 which saw the ruling party lose support for mismanaging the economic crisis.
Beefy - don't play with the grown ups then, go back to play school.

All i can think of, is that this is all to do with the notion of a one world government, and they are trying to drag Islam ,kicking and screaming, into the deal. Turkey is the most westernised of all the Islamic country's, and ,with the aid of progressive Turkish youth, will shepard all the others into following suit?....and i believe that is the true reason for this silly pointless Afghanistan situation. economically NOTHING Britain or the EU is doing makes sense. we are "in a depression" and yet we are importing twelve thousand people a week into the country?...Giving away Billions to other country's, shoring up banks that are still on paths to suicide.....I believe that government EVERY WHERE is totally out of control. All of the EU country's people, need to get out onto the streets to vent their anger, and call a halt to this insanity. The people need to know what the Hell is going on. the governments of the world are not consulting the people anymore."

Assess the value of strategic value in helping P&O to formulater its strategy for the future? P &O is a large established company operating across channel ferry services for passengers and freight. In addition, it owns and operates a number of pods. In the first half of 2004, passenger ferries lost P&O ВЈ25m. In contrast freight crossings, which transport lorries carrying goods between UK and the rest of Europe, earned ВЈ74m in profit in the same period. In the late 2004, P&O announced plans to reduce its passenger ferry workforce by 1200 employees. The move was designed to reduce capacity and cut costs in its cross channel passenger ferry services. The job cuts are part of a larger strategic review of operations that P&O has been conducting since the start of 2004.
This was not the first time P&O had reduced the size of its operations. It has spent the past decade slimming down. In the past, it has been criticised for being over-large ............ with a vast range of interests in property, entertainment, holiday resorts, in addition to its ferry services and ports. It has gradually shed its diverse interests and concentrated on its core activities of ferry services and ports.
The city was pleased with the proposed job cuts. P&O’s share price climbed 5% following the announcements of cuts. Some analysts suggested it was only a matter of time before P&O rid itself completely of the passenger ferries and focused on the thriving ports and freight parts of the operation.
However, union leaders criticised the proposed job losses and the lack of consultation, warning P&O bosses that they faced industrial action if they went through with the proposed cuts. Bob Crow, the Rail Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) General Secretary, said: “our members are devastated by the cuts. We urged the company to consult with us properly, but instead they kept, us guessing for weeks. We found out about the job cuts through the media after the decision had been taken. We are happy to talk about ways we can improve efficiency, but we will not tolerate any compulsory redundancies.” Another union lender claimed that P&O’s management was acting “like rabbits facing the headlights” in response to the passenger ferries losses. “they should seek imaginative and bold strategies for the future, rather than opting to cut costs in this knee jerk way”, he said.
A number of factors have made it increasingly difficult for P&O to run its passenger ferries profitably. In recent year, it has experienced a decline in day trips, where passengers bought cheaper beer, wines, tobacco products and gifts on board or during a short stay in France. This decline has occurred for a number of reasons:
•The opening of the Channel Tunnel in 1994;
•The abolition of tax free sales of alcohol and tobacco products on board ferries in 1999;
•The French government’s decision to raise tax on cigarettes by 50%;
•Increasing sales of cheep beer and wine in UK super markets.
At the same time the growth of low cost airlines opened up more exotic destinations for UK travellers.
In addition, P&O claims it does not receive the same kind of help as some of its competitors. Two of the main rivals, Sea France and Brittany Ferries, are basically owned by the French government and, consequently, are under little pressure to deliver profits for shareholders. Also, Eurotunnel, which operates services through the Channel Tunnel, continues to run at a loss with little, chance of generating a return for investors. So it is no surprise that P&O has been under intense pressure to slash prices of its crossing in order to stay profitable. “We are not asking for subsidies from the UK government, but we do not have a pretty uneven playing field”, said Mr Woods, P&O’s chief executive.
Bill Moses, a former boss of Hoverspeed, one of P&’Os competitors, argues that the ferry companies have been reluctant to reduce their capacity as the overall market has shrunk and changed in nature. Total ferry passenger numbers from the UK to France are set to halve between 2000 and 2010. “The industry needs to match capacity to demand – something its never been good at , he said. “In the past, in a growing market, its not been an issue. In truth, P&O is a fat cat and needs to tailor its service more to customer needs and customer volumes”, he added.
It isn’t all gloom at P&O. Ports and freight services have been consistently profitable. The company expects freight services to contribute 51% of total revenue for 2004, and the freight market as a whole to expand by 6% a year. This growth in freight is partly due to the fact that the volume of freight traffic increases as the economy grows stronger and is also likely to be boosted by the expansion of the European Union. More than half of total imports into eastern European countries are from established EU countries, so freight traffic between established EU countries and the new entrants could expand considerably. P&O is attempting to ....... freight business from Latvia, Hungary, and the Czech Repu

Why does the Canadian government take away my slaves? There is a comprehensive body of case law in Canadian history that makes thorough provisions -- exemptions -- concerning the Abolition and Native Canadians.

The Abolition Act was struck down by the Supreme Court as not applicable to Quebec (The Slave Trade in Quebec follows the French model, and evolved and eventually died out independent of Anglophonic Canada) on grounds that the Act was not printed in French.

My people, the Saswiniki tride of Yukon are therefore not held to the act, for we are neither English speaking nor French speaking and the Government refuses to translate their legal documents into our language.

My people produce the very best cigarettes in all of Canada and we need our workers from the neighbouring Tuktayaktuk tribe to provide quality cigarettes at a quality price.

The native tobacco industry would just not be the same without us! Look for Saswiniki Gold at your local Canadian tobacconist today!
